![]() The gaze test is pretty accurate, but many people can't stand on one leg, say the alphabet backwards, or walk heel-to-toe while scared sh**less. PS - Anyone who gets pulled over should always decline the field sobriety tests. SO's friend is definitely not telling you the whole story. In fact, it is required by the DOL and you will lose your license for a year if you decline. They also always have you take a breathalyzer test at the station - unless, again, you decline. ![]() It is rare to unheard of for the police to solely administer the alphabet test. They do not do the heel-to-toe or balance tests if there are very poor weather conditions (pounding rain, for example, and you could slip) or if you are extremely intoxicated and could harm yourself. ![]() Others include the horizontal gaze-nystagmus (which is a weird eye-tracking test), walking heel-to-toe, touching your nose, and balancing on one leg for a period of time. But they always give others as well, unless you decline them. Yes, the backwards alphabet is one field sobriety test. ![]()
